Environment

Balélec is concerned about its impact on the environment, which is why many different actions promoting sustainable development have been set up over many years. Our stands use reusable dishes and glasses. Pocket ashtrays (blekolo) are distributed for free to festival-goers.

For transportation, the festival will refund your M1 ticket roundtrip. Moreover, the M1 will circulate all through the night and will be free of charge from midnight onwards. Shuttle buses to different cities in Romandy are also available and a carpooling system is in place on our website.

In order to feel in charge of our impact on the environment, the festival has put in place an environmental management system that has received the ISO 14001 certification in 2007. Balélec is the first festival in Switzerland to have received that certification.

Reusable cups

In 2006, reusable cups were introduced to the festival and were an immediate success. They are made from solid plastic and can be washed and reused at another event. The advantages of this solution are important:

The impact on the environment is much weaker than that of disposable cups;
The quantity of waste is reduced;
The Cleanliness of the site is strongly improved.
Each cup has a 2.- deposit which you can retrieve by giving it to any bar present at Balélec.

There will also be a stand set up purely to return dishes and cups, which will be on the way to the exit.

*** WARNING ***

The stands will be instructed to not accept damaged returned cups (cigarette burns, breaks, etc.). You will not retrieve your deposit if your cup is too damaged.

We thank you for having been good sports in previous years and hope that you will appreciate this system which reduces our carbon footprint and makes our festival all the more welcoming.

Reusable dishes

After having introduced reusable dishes on a part of the site in 2011, we are now going to expand and they will be the only type of dishes used at Balélec. The same advantages as the reusable cups apply to this and the impact on the environment is also reduced when compared to that of the recyclable dishes used in the past.

There will be a 3.- deposit for plates and 1.- for cutlery. You may retrieve that deposit by taking your dishes to the return stand, which will be near the food stand exit on level 1.

*** WARNING ***

You will not retrieve your deposit if your dish is too damaged.

We thank you for having been good sports in previous years and hope that you will appreciate this system which reduces our carbon footprint and makes our festival all the more welcoming.

Flyers made of recyled paper

This year Balélec has again decided to print it’s few 40’000 flyers on recycled paper. This paper is blanched without chlorine and is of equal quality to standard paper, whilst reducing the environmental impact. We encourage you to dispose of these flyers in the appropriate bins.
